Preventing Violence By Knowing the Facts

  • As of October 2019, 1 in 4 children were exposed to domestic violence.

  • In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic increased stress and mental health issues, putting victims and children of domestic abuse in precarious situations.

  • High rates of intimate partner violence: 43.7% of non-Hispanic Black women, 46.0% of American Indian or Alaska Native women, and 53.8% of multiracial non-Hispanic women have experienced violence, higher than Hispanic, White, and Asian women.   • Approximately 4 million older Americans face abuse and neglect annually, according to the NCADV.

  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner violence, with impacts like injury and PTSD.

    • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner.

    • 1 in 7 women and 1 in 25 men have been injured by an intimate partner.

    • 1 in 10 women have been raped by an intimate partner.


  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner.

  • 1 in 7 women and 1 in 18 men have been stalked by an intimate partner.

  • Over 20,000 calls are made to domestic violence hotlines daily.

  • The presence of a gun in domestic violence situations increases the risk of homicide by 500%.
